An Introduction to Sealants

Sealants are one of the easier dental procedures for preventing cavities. Sometimes the pits and grooves of your teeth are such that it is hard for your tooth brush to effectively clean and remove the bacteria hiding in there. That is why approximately 80% of all cavities form in these grooves.

A dental sealant is a protective resin coating that is applied to these grooves. While sealants don't prevent all cavities, they do help to lower the overall decay rate and number of cavities. Sealants are especially helpful with children and teens.
